In 1857, Luigi Moretti founded a beer and ice factory in Udine, Italy at the age of 37. The first bottle of Birra Moretti was sold in 1860 and became a favourite in the region of Friuli until the 1990s where Birra Moretti became nationally-distributed. 

The man on the bottle of a Birra Moretti is said to have been spotted by Luigi Moretti's cousin, who saw a man in Udine drinking Birra Moretti and felt he was the perfect representation of the sort of person that loved the beer. Mr Moretti asked to take the man's photograph and all that was asked for in return was another beer! 

Today, Birra Moretti is a beer distributed to 40 countries worldwide, and has won both silver and gold medals at the World Beer Cup.
