The brewery’s name changed in 1873 to Heineken’s Bierbrouwerij Maatschappij (HBM). In 1886 the key ingredient known as Heineken A-Yeast was developed by Dr. H. Elion in the Heineken laboratory. The A-Yeast remains a vital ingredient in Heineken to this day.
